Republic Day on January 26 is every year celebrated as the national festival in all the corners of India. Republic Day is celebrated on every year to commemorate the adoption of our own 'Constitution of India' on 26th January, 1950.

The Republic Day parade is the main feature of the Republic Day celebration. Indian states, union ministeries, government organisations, armed forces takes part in the grand parade that is organised in the New Delhi. The parade starts from Raisina Hill, near the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President's Palace), and ends  the historical Red Fort. On the way, it passes through Rajpath and India Gate. It is at India Gate that the President of India, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, takes the salute.

This year twenty one tableaus will form part of 61th Republic Day parade on January 26 and showcase India's cultural diversity, development in science and technology, military might and economic strength. The main attraction will be of 2010 Commonwealth Games mascot Shera, during the Republic Day parade on Tuesday. South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak will be the chief guest at this year's Republic Day parade.

DD National, DD News and other channels of Doordarshan will telecast live the Flag hoisting ceremony by President of India Pratibha Devi Singh Patil followed by Republic day parade from Rajpath from the morning. Air India Radio and their all channels will also broadcast the event on 26th January from 9.20 A.M. onwards on Tuesday. The 61st Republic day celebrations will also be Webcast live by National Informatics Centre from 9:25 AM onwards. Doordarshan Channels, AIR and NIC will also present live of the President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil address the nation at  7.00 P.M. toay on the eve of the 61st Republic day.
